EC requests clarification of Sonia Gandhi’s remark about “Karnataka sovereignty” from Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.Following a complaint from the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Election Commission of India on Monday sent a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asking him to address the “sovereignty” of Karnataka comment that senior leader Sonia Gandhi is believed to have made.The opposition party had ascribed the comment to Sonia Gandhi, and the BJP had requested action against her and her party’s de-recognition from the Election Commission on Monday. A FIR was also demanded by the party against her.
Bhupender Yadav, a Union minister, led a BJP group that sent a document on the subject to the Delhi election commission.”The Election Commission of India today issued a letter to INC President to provide clarification and take rectification measures in respect of the social media post which has been put up on the Official INC Twitter handle and attributed to Chairperson CPP,” the ECI stated in a statement.
