With the start of the eagerly anticipated commercial flight operations on Saturday, the Steel City of Rourkela has officially entered the Odisha aviation landscape. Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation, had a video conference to officially launch the first direct flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. The service was formally opened by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and MP Aparajita Sarangi. After Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda, and Jeypore, Rourkela, which will host the Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023, became the fourth city in the State to get scheduled flights.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated in a blog post about the launch of a direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, “This route, being started under the UDAN scheme, is an important flight from the perspective of development of the mineral industry as well as the Hockey World Cup 2023 starting January 13.””Aspirations of people in Rourkela and Odisha take yet another flight,” remarked Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he continued, “delivers his promise to the people of Odisha yet again.”With a 72-passenger capacity, Alliance Air will run the flight service between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.Although the first flight got off today, regular flight operations will begin on January 12.
Every day at 2:55 PM, an Alliance Air ATR-72 will depart from Bhubaneswar and arrive in Rourkela at 3:50 PM. The flight will depart Rourkela at 04:15 and land in Bhubaneswar at 05:10 on the return trip. The fee for the route between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela has been fixed at Rs. 2803, while the cost for the return trip is Rs. 2721.
