Veteran Congressman Chiranjib Biswal resigned from the national party on Saturday, one day before the 2024 general elections.
Biswal offered his resignation to Sarat Pattanayak, the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress (PCC). In his resignation letter, the former cricket player and two-time MLA stated, “I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress.”
Chiranjib Biswal was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2004 from Tirtol on a Congress ticket. His father, late Basant Kumar Biswal, was a stalwart in the Congress and a former deputy chief minister of Odisha. In addition, he was victorious in the 2014 Jagatsinghpur Assembly elections.
