Four From Odisha Receive Padma Shri From President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu honored four notable Odisha citizens with the coveted Padma Shri awards on Monday during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I at Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Ganatantra Mandap. Four Padma Vibhushan, ten Padma Bhushan, and fifty-seven Padma Shri awards for 2025 were presented during the ceremony.

Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, a well-known sculptor from Dhenkanal, was honored for his artistic contributions; Dr. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, the former director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was recognized for his outstanding medical work; Durga Charan Ranbir was honored for his artistic accomplishments; and Pratibha Satpathy was recognized for her contributions to education and literature.

Three categories are used to confer the Padma awards: Padma Shri for distinguished service in any area, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a higher degree, and Padma Vibhushan for extraordinary and distinguished service. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a number of Union Ministers, and other dignitaries were present at the occasion. The honorees will visit Rashtrapati Bhawan and the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya on Tuesday, as well as pay their respects at the National War Memorial.
