“GBS Cases in Maharashtra Surge to 163, with Five New Cases Reported in Pune”

The total number of confirmed Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Maharashtra has reached 127, with 163 suspected cases across Pune city, rural areas, and nearby districts, including five new detections in Pune. Authorities report that while no deaths were recorded on Monday, the number of confirmed cases stands at 127. The suspected cases include 32 from Pune city, 86 from newly added villages within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, 18 from Pimpri Chinchwad, 19 from Pune rural, and eight from other districts.

Among the 163 patients, 47 have been discharged, 47 are in the ICU, and 21 require ventilator support. In addition, 168 water samples from various parts of Pune city were analyzed for chemical and biological contamination, with results revealing contamination in samples from eight water sources.

The state health department’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) has been investigating the possible causes behind the rise in GBS cases, focusing on the affected cluster areas. During a review meeting on Monday, the RRT instructed health officials to concentrate their efforts on these areas, with officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) also in attendance.

Officials stated that new guidelines for public health interventions and the management of the GBS outbreak in the city will soon be provided by the high-level multidisciplinary team appointed by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
