Due to the low pressure in Odisha, the continuous rain has triggered to cause a flood situation in many small lying areas. Pujariguda, Katraguda, and Kiram under Baddural panchayat in Khairput block has been cut off after heavy rain wiped away the bridge at Pujariguda. Even the massive flooding has affected in Malkangiri, but till now no casualty has been recorded so far.
Manish Agarwal, the Collector, informed that for past five days there had been continuous rainfall, but there has no report of any casualty and the district administration is also keeping an eye for the flood situation.
However, road communication has been severely affected due to floodwaters. On the route to Podia, the bridge at Kanyashram was also engulfed.
Arrangements were made to shift more than 100 people who were stranded in some village to a safer place and provide them with food. Even some of the Kutcha houses were utterly drenched in Chitrakonda and Kalimela.
Talking about the loss of crop he informed that the paddy fields in 34 villages in Kalimela and Mathili were immersed following a breach in a MIP check dam.
Vast damages of agricultural lands which are submerged due to the heavy rain in the area. Even a comprehensive evaluation of damage in the district will be taken up after the reversal of floodwaters.
The increasing water level in Saveri and Sileru is a severe matter, and the administration is keeping an eye on the two rivers and the overall flood situation in the wake of the met department orange alert for the district. In the last 24 hours, the district held 696.5 mm rainfall in which Korukonda received the highest of 119 mm.
