Siva’s period action drama Kanguva, starring Suriya in the lead role and Bobby Deol as the antagonist, is set to hit cinemas on November 14, with a U certificate. The film is poised to present strong competition to the current Bollywood blockbusters at the box office – Rohit Shetty’s *Singham Again* and Anees Bazmee’s *Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3*. Unlike these franchise films, *Kanguva* is an original, standalone story, created by Siva with contributions from Adhi Narayana. While the plot is largely under wraps, it is known to be set 1,500 years in the past during prehistoric times.
Designed as a pan-India epic, Kanguva differs from Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which are entrenched in the Bollywood space. The film boasts a diverse, pan-India cast, including Disha Patani, who also featured in the recent sci-fi hit *Kalki 2898 AD*. Additionally, *Kanguva* has been shot in several scenic locations across India, including Chennai, Goa, Kerala, Kodaikanal, and Rajahmundry. It will also be released in 38 languages worldwide, marking an unprecedented move for a Tamil film.
Studio Green and UV Creations have invested between Rs300 crore and Rs 350 crore into the first part of *Kanguva*, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced. With the sequel set to release in early 2027, it’s clear that the filmmakers have ambitious plans to expand the project into a full-fledged franchise.
