Laxmidhar Behera, the director of IIT Mandi, caused a stir on Thursday when he connected weather-related events in Himachal Pradesh to meat intake. The “butchering of innocent animals” had an unnoticed yet “symbiotic relationship with the degradation of the environment,” the top professor recently told students in a speech. Since a video of Professor Behera pushing students to go vegetarian went viral, the discussion has shifted to a political one.

He emphasises further that stopping animal slaughter will have a negative effect on our ecosystem. He claims that if innocent animals are not killed, Himachal Pradesh will suffer greatly. You are slaughtering these defenceless animals. The mass-scale landslides and several other phenomena, such as cloudbursts, which you repeatedly witness, are all a result of this brutality, he added.Director of an IIT, according to Rahul Siddharthan, who posted the X (previously Twitter) video. Why are landslides happening in Himachal? because of unauthorised building, logging, climate change, or all of the above? When he delivered the speech captured on camera is unknown. Calls and texts requesting comment from Behera went unanswered.

Indian Institute of Technology was mentioned by another user @Ckj Mumbai. The Ministry of Human Resource Development established eight new Indian Institutes of Technology, Mandi being one of them. This is the standard at the recently opened IIT. I feel bad for the youngsters who will receive an engineering degree.Jairam Ramesh, a Congress leader, claimed that Behera was unqualified to lead an IIT and that the longer he held the position, the more harm he would cause to the spirit of science.
