Even though it appeared that a lightning strike caused the elephants’ deaths, the postmortem is being carried out according to protocol.Two elephants were tragically killed by lightning on Tuesday night at the Bamandanga tea plantation in the Jalpaiguri district of north Bengal, according to authorities from the forest department.”We have launched a search operation to find out if more elephants died in the forest areas,” extra divisional forest officer Jayanta Mondal of the Jalpaiguri division said.
