The security forces shot and killed up to two female Maoists on Tuesday in Phulbani’s Gochapada neighbourhood. According to sources, the Kandhamal District Police conducted an operation in the Matakupa Reserve Forest area based on intelligence inputs. Maoists and SOG units engaged in gunfire on the border of Kandhamal’s Gochhapada Police Station Limit and Boudh’s Kantamal Police Station Limit.

It is believed that the Maoists were preparing a significant assault after the takeover. “We have effectively eliminated two female cadres. Four weapons and two bodies have been found. We found a good rifle among the seized weapons, according to Police DG Sunil Bansal. The DG added that efforts are being made to identify the bodies. He continued, “As it seems, the female Maoists who were neutralised held the top positions.”

The area has had an increase in combing operations since the incident.
