The Indian squad for the first two matches of the Test series against England, which starts on February 5, will be announced today. Captain Virat Kohli will return to the team after his paternity leave.
Similarly, fast bowler Ishant Sharma will return to the team after a long leave for an injury problem. In addition, Jaspreet Bumrah and R Ashwin failed to play the Brisbane Test due to injury problems. The two bowlers are expected to be fit before the Test against England. Mohammad Sami, Umesh Yadav and Hanuma Bihari may not be included in the squad. Players who are fit on the Australia tour could be included in the squad.
Syed Mushtaq Ali, who is recovering from a muscle injury problem, is currently playing in the team. Along with Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj, he will lead the team’s pace force. Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan could be included as additional bowlers.
Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem could be replaced by Rabindra Jadeja in the spin department. He played one Test match against South Africa in 2019. Kuldeep Yadav could play as a backup spinner after Washington Sundar’s formidable performance.
Rishav Pant and Riddhiman Shah could be included in the squad as wicket-keepers and one of Mayank Agrawal or KL Rahul could be included. It is clear that Prithvi Shaw will not be included in the squad. The AB meeting of the selection committee is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.
