India abstains from voting on the UNGA resolution against the “illegal” annexation of parts of Ukraine

Russia-Ukraine (October 13) War News, Live: India did not cast a vote in the UNGA draught resolution on the “illegal” annexation of Ukrainian areas by Russia on Wednesday. India was one of the 35 UNGA members who chose not to cast a vote. The resolution was passed just days after India and Russia both abstained on a similar measure in the Security Council.

After holding what it said were referendums, Moscow announced in September that it had annexed the four partially occupied regions of Ukraine: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. The voting have been criticised as being unlawful and coerced by Ukraine and allies.

In other events, on Wednesday, air raid sirens continued to ring in several areas of Ukraine. According to the governor of Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, a Russian hit on a busy market in the frontline town of Avdiivka resulted in at least seven fatalities and eight injuries. There were rumours of occasional shelling in other areas, but there was little trace of the two days’ worth of nationwide strikes.
