India to partially resume visa services in Canada from Thursday

The Indian High Commission in Ottawa said on Wednesday that India has chosen to partly restart visa services in Canada starting on October 26. A month after they were suspended due to the two countries’ worsening diplomatic relations. The High Commission released a statement announcing the return of entrance, business, medical, and conference visa services.

“Further decisions, as appropriate, would be intimated based on continuing evaluation of the situation,” the statement added.

After Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India last month in his country’s Parliament of having a hand in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on its territory, diplomatic ties between India and Canada reached an all-time low. In order to preserve diplomatic parity, both countries then requested that the other remove a diplomat from each other. Earlier this month, New Delhi requested that Canada repatriate more than 40 of its diplomats who were stationed there. India said that Canada’s “repeated interference” in its domestic affairs was the reason behind this action, as well as the removal of a significant portion of Canadian diplomats from the nation.
