Indian Basketball Team grabs Silver in Asia Cup

When the Indian U17 3×3 basketball team qualified for the U18 3×3 FIBA World Cup for the first time since the tournament’s inception, it was a historic day for India. While this was happening, the Indian team, which included Jaideep Rathore, Kushal Singh, Harsh Dugar, and Lokendra Singh, reached the U17 3×3 Asia Cup final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The men’s team last competed at the World Cup, where they placed 29th overall, while the women’s team placed 16th.In the Sunday semifinal match, India overcame Chinese Taipei 21-20 to get to the coveted World Cup. The squad lost to Japan in the Asia Cup final and came in second place. Earlier in the competition, India defeated Jordan 2-19 in the quarterfinals.

The team’s victory left K Govindaraj, president of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), feeling quite happy, so he announced a gift of Rs 1 lakh for each team member.The sixth edition of the FIBA U17 3*3 Asia Cup got underway on October 13 in Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia, following a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
