The Indian men’s soccer squad landed in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening to take part in the international soccer competition beginning on June 9 at Kalinga Stadium. The four-team Intercontinental Cup will be contested from June 9 to June 18 during the FIFA international window. The Lebanon, Mongolia, and Vanuatu will compete in the mega event alongside the hosts, India.
The Hero Intercontinental Cup will see its third iteration; the first two, in 2018 and 2019, were hosted in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, respectively. Manipur hosted the Tri-Nation International Football Tournament in March of this year. As he welcomed Odisha into senior men’s international football last month, Federation Secretary General Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran said, “Imphal had experienced the joy of international football in March, and now it’s Bhubaneswar’s turn to join the country’s expanding map of international venues for men’s football.
According to Prabhakaran, Bhubaneswar served as one of the tournament’s locations. The Government of Odisha has built some outstanding infrastructure, as we have witnessed. The U-17 Women’s World Cup left behind a legacy that made it possible for the senior men’s national team to play in the city for the first time ever.
