Odia IAS Officer Bidyut Bihari Swain Appointed Member UPSC

Bidyut Bihari Swain, an Odia IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, has been named a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). An order from the Department of Personnel and Training, part of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, released on Monday said, “The President is pleased to nominate Shri Bidyut Bihari Swain, IAS, (GJ:1988) as Member, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

According to the ruling, Bidyut Bihari Swain’s term as a member of the UPSC would begin on the day he assumes that position. The ruling further said that the UPSC (Members) Regulations 1969, as modified from time to time, would control the terms of his service and that the duration of his appointment would be governed by the requirements of Article 316(2) of the Indian Constitution.

Swain has held significant roles in a number of Gujarati government agencies as well as in a number of Union government Ministries. He presently serves as the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises’ Secretary.
