Indian Whiskey Judged World’s Best Single Malt At London Spirits Competition

It’s time for those who can’t live without Scotch whiskey in their personal bars to try something new. Godawan Century may not be well-known or well-tried, but it did win the gold medal in the London Spirits Competition’s 2024 single malt whiskey division. Godawan Single Malt Fruit and Spice Artisan Whiskey and Godawan Single Malt Rich and Rounded Artisan Whiskey both won gold awards at the Competition, establishing Godawan Century as the highest-scoring product from India.

The London Spirits Competition assesses the best spirits available globally according to standards like value, quality, and packaging. With an astounding 96 points, Godawan 100 cemented its status as the best single malt whiskey in the world. The London Spirits Competition has published tasting notes that describe Godawan Century as having strong tropical flavors, a lighter palate, and a brief aftertaste. Along with a lengthy, dry finish, it has a wonderful sweetness on the palate along with faint notes of caramel, charcoal, cinnamon, and anise.

A product of conservation efforts for the Great Indian Bustard, an endangered big bird, Godawan whiskey was also supported by the monarch of the Jaisalmer royal family in Rajasthan. Godawan Single Malt Whiskey is inspired by the profound Rajasthani attitude of finding beauty in scarcity while supporting sustainability, reflecting its birthplace and tradition. Produced by Diageo India, a prominent beverage company in India, this unique whisky is aged in carefully chosen casks that have been infused with Indian botanicals to augment its allure.

On its first anniversary, Godawan 100, a collector’s edition single malt made in limited quantities of just 100 bottles, honors the Great Indian Bustard, also known as Godawan. Though there are currently only a little over a hundred left, the Great Indian Bustard was once a frequent sight all over India.
