Indians welcome PM Narendra Modi in Australia

The Indian community greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he arrived in Sydney on Monday for two days of productive meetings with Australian leadership, the corporate community, and diaspora members amid shouts of “Hail Modi,” “Vanakkam Modi,” “Namaste Modi,” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

A member of the Indian community stated, “Modi ji, we have great hopes from you,” as the Prime Minister greeted and shook hands with the group. The community members had been excitedly anticipating his presence since he last visited the nation in 2014.

“The Indian community in Sydney welcomed me with open arms when I arrived. I’m excited for a variety of shows over the next two days,” Modi tweeted after arriving in Sydney.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met Modi at the airport as he arrived on a state-sponsored trip to Australia from May 22 to May 24. “I am honored to host Prime Minister Modi for an official visit to Australia, after receiving an incredibly warm welcome in India earlier this year,” Albanese said in a statement before to the Indian PM’s arrival.

“A peaceful, safe, and prosperous Indo-Pacific is a goal shared by Australia and India. Together, we have a crucial part to play in advancing this goal, he asserted in the face of China’s aggressive actions in the area and its efforts to increase its influence.

As part of his final phase of the three-nation visit, Modi will meet with his Australian colleague Albanese and speak to Australia’s large, vibrant, and diversified Indian diaspora, which numbers more than 80,000 people.

After Rajiv Gandhi, Modi was the first Indian prime minister to travel to Australia in 2014. While there, he spoke to 20,000 spectators at the Sydney SuperDome at Olympic Park and promised that more Indian leaders will travel to Australia in the future.
