What made you take up the career of a Content Creator ?
I never thought of becoming a content creator at first.
I was always a pageant enthusiast so I participated in a number of pageants got recognition and started doing Runways and shoots. I posted my pictures on social media and people started following me. It started in 2017 and in 2019 a brand approached me. They sent me products and I had to post pictures on my Ig handle, I got paid for this. That’s when I realised content creation is a thing and I can earn through social media. Later in 2020 when everything came on hold due to COVID-19 I started my YouTube channel.
What are the issues or backlash you face being a content creator ?
Being a content creator a lot of times I receive negative comments from people. Earlier I got body shammed online for being thin so I made it my Identity and started skinny_next_door on instagram.
Some people are really insensitive they send inappropriate messages if I don’t reply to their comments or texts. The hardest part was the beginning when my friends made fun of me for creating video.Another problem is my parents don’t understand that content creation can actually be a career. Also I’m not a full time content creator right now so balancing between job and content creation becomes really hectic sometimes.
What is the best part you feel about your profession ?
The best part is when upcoming content creators reachout to me for guidance. Also getting to try all the new stuff in market even before it’s launched is fun.
Who is your inspiration ?
I wasn’t inspired by a specific creator to persue Content creation. I watch a lot of popular content creators and love their work but that’s totally different from what I do.
Tell us about an inspirational incident in this career till now ?
Once I posted a youtube video which went viral and a lot of people appreciated it but there were some who wrote negative comments. Back then I wasn’t open to such comments and feedbacks so I thought maybe I should take that video down. But later I realised that the number of positive comments is much higher and their are people who appreciate my work. Lesson learnt was that when you do good in life not everyone will appreciate it some will try to pull you back. Ever since then I’m open to any type of feedback or comments. It inspired me to be confident and not get carried away by others opinion of me.
Is the work tiring ? How do you manage so much pressure ?
Yes sometimes it is tiring and overwhelming.I even took a break from Content creation a lot of times due to which a brand I was collaborating with black listed me.Content creation looks easy but it’s not. A 30sec reel takes 6 hours to be created. Constant pressure from brands to submit the deliverables on time, hustling between passion and profession is tiring sometimes.
What would be your advice to youngsters who want to take up this field ?
For everyone who wants to be a content creator -Please be consistent, don’t give up easily.
At first it’ll be difficult and you’ll hardly see results but later it’s going to be worth it.
