Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Visit Pakistan Before Scheduled Trip to India

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to arrive in Pakistan on Monday for a day-long visit to Islamabad, ahead of his scheduled trip to New Delhi, amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.

According to media reports, Araghchi will be accompanied by a high-level delegation and is expected to hold crucial talks with his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar. The discussions will center on strengthening bilateral relations and reviewing the current regional situation, with a particular focus on the growing India-Pakistan rift following the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead. It was the deadliest strike in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama incident.

The visit is part of Tehran’s broader diplomatic efforts to engage with regional countries. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed on Saturday that Araghchi’s trips to Pakistan and India are aimed at ongoing regional consultations. In Islamabad, the Iranian diplomat will also meet other top officials to discuss mutual cooperation and evolving geopolitical challenges.

Araghchi had earlier condemned the Pahalgam attack “strongly and unequivocally,” and expressed Iran’s willingness to mediate and help reduce tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. He stated that Tehran is ready to use its diplomatic channels in both capitals to “forge greater understanding at this difficult time.”

Araghchi’s visit to India is expected later this week.
