Dnyaeshwar Janardhan Awate is a small farmer belonging to Paithan Taluka in Aurangabad. He received Rs 15,34,624 in his bank account. As anyone else would have been overjoyed with this news , so was Dnyaeshwar Janardhan Awate.
He had a beleif that Oppositions claim which said that The Prime Minister has promised an amount of 15 Lakhs in every citizen’s bank account. This claim was said to be made back in 2014. After waiting for a while when no money was debited from his account , Dnyaeshwar was assured that was not a mistake. He was thankful and wrote a letter thanking the Prime Minister.
He then went to the bank and debited 9 lakhs to build his family a home which they dreamt of for a long time. However as the work of building his home was almost going to be finished – The Bank of Baroda stopped him from withdrawing the remaining money. When this matter was looked upon in the month of December it was found out that this fund was actually allocate dto Pimpalwadi Gram Panchayat. This was a part of 15th Finance Commission which was mistakenly deposited to Awate’s aacount.
There is still a blame game going on between the bank officials and the Gram Panchayat but both have unanimously agreed that Awate should return the amount. This incident has become a nightmare for the poor farmer. The bank has warned him that a legal action can be taken if the money is not returned . The poor farmer just owns a 2 acre piece of unirrigated land and he said that his financial condition is such that he can only return the money in installments. It is still a question whose fault was this ! All we know for now is the poor farmer had to suffer.
