Is Rolex a good investment ?

by Subhechcha Ganguly

For the past ten years, the value of a Rolex as an investment has outpaced that of other assets like gold and the stock market. Rolex watch prices on the secondary market rose dramatically in the first few months of 2022 before somewhat declining toward the end of the year.Around 25% of site searches are for Rolex-related items, according to Chrono24, a well-known luxury watch marketplace that counts investors like French billionaire Bernard Arnault, who just dethroned Elon Musk as the richest man in the world.

Rolex watches account for 14% of sales on the marketplace, and 80% of them are used. However, Stracke notes that some watch manufacturers have only experienced a “very, very constant, slow but steady increase over time.” According to Paul Altieri, CEO of online watch resale marketplace Bob’s Watches, over the past ten years the company has bought and sold thousands of watches using a consistent pricing method, giving it unique insights into the true market value of each Rolex model.Supply is one factor that has contributed to the recent rapid increase in Rolex prices. According to reports, Rolex produces roughly 800,000 watches annually, but due to the brand’s fame, demand far outstrips supply, creating a thriving secondary market for pre-owned watches.

In fact, the average sales data for Rolex indicates a rise starting in 2017 and a further rise in 2020. The average Rolex price as of February 2022 is more over $13,000, which is more than three times the $5,000 average from 2011.Before you leave the store, Altieri remarked, “It’s worth double or triple what you paid.” People have been waiting for a year or more for their names to appear on the buyers list; they won’t be flipping it.
According to a McKinsey analysis, the market for pre-owned luxury watches is currently valued at $20 billion overall and is predicted to reach $29 billion by 2025.
