Justice Subhasis Talapatra and three other new Chief Justices of High Courts in Gujarat, Kerala, and Telangana were all appointed by the Union Law and Justice Ministry on Wednesday. After Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar, the current Chief Justice of Odisha, retires on August 7, Justice Talapatra will take up that position.
in November 15, 2011, Justice Talapatra was promoted to the position of judge in the Gauhati High Court. In 2013, a new High Court for Tripura was established, and Justice Talapatra chose that court to be his parent High Court. Previously, the Supreme Court Collegium had suggested Justice Talapatra for the position, citing his extensive experience as a judge in two High Courts.
As of June 10, 2022, Justice Talapatra has been serving at the Orissa High Court. In the meantime, Justice Sunita Agarwal has been named Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, while Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai has been named Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Justice Alok Aradhe has been named Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
