Today in Cuttack city, a sanitation worker was cleaning an open drain when he was killed once more. A 27-year-old sanitation worker named P Narasingha is said to have died after falling into an open main drain in Barapathar, close to Prabhat Cinema, in the city. JICA paid Narasingha a daily payment of Rs 1,000 to work on desilting the drain. Locals pulled him out of the drain, but he later died.
His corpse was taken by police, who then transported it to SCB Medical College & Hospital for an autopsy. Following the unfortunate event, there was a lot of tension in the neighbourhood. Locals stopped the road by burning used car tires, blaming JICA and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) authorities for the unfortunate tragedy. Following involvement by, the road obstruction was removed.
It is pertinent of mention here that four days ago another person had died after falling into the open drain at Jhola Sahi in the city.
