Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions To Remake Odia Film ‘Bou Buttu Bhuta’

The Odia film “Bou Buttu Bhuta,” which starred Babushaan Mohanty and Archita Sahu, is set to be remade by Bollywood director Karan Johar’s production company, Dharma Productions. After its June 12, 2025 release, the movie became the highest-grossing Odia film ever.

A public announcement in the magazine Film Information states that Dharma Productions has started the process of obtaining the rights to recreate “Bou Buttu Bhuta” in all Indian and international languages. The production company may create, produce, distribute, and profit from remakes on many platforms thanks to the derivative rights included in the transaction. According to the notification, all intellectual property rights pertaining to “Bou Buttu Bhuta” are solely and legally owned by Babushaan Films Private Limited, the production firm that made the original movie. Within 15 days of the notice being published, any interested parties who have claims to the remake rights must submit such claims in writing.

In the horror-thriller-comedy movie “Bou Buttu Bhuta,” a fish farmer becomes possessed by a ghost, causing mayhem in the community. Babushaan Mohanty, Archita Sahu, and Aparajita Mohanty play important parts in the movie. The film, which was written by Mohammad Aran and directed by Jagdish Mishra, has gotten good reviews because of its distinctive plot and rural location.
