The Karnataka government has declared three days of state mourning, from December 10 to 12, in honor of veteran politician and former Chief Minister S M Krishna, who passed away on Tuesday. His last rites will be conducted with full state honors at his native village in Mandya district on Wednesday, according to reports.
During the period of state mourning, official entertainment events will be suspended, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast across all government buildings. Krishna, 92, had been ill for some time before his passing early on Tuesday.
Reacting to the news, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his shock, stating on X, “I am deeply saddened by the death of former Chief Minister S M Krishna. His contributions as both a State and Union Minister, as well as Chief Minister, were unmatched. Karnataka will forever be grateful for his role in the development of the IT-BT sector, particularly during his tenure as Chief Minister.”
