Protests erupt in front of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Washington, DC, in protest of agricultural law. In front of the Indian embassy there is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The ‘Khalistan flag’ was seen draped on it during the protest. India has demanded firm action with an investigation into the incident.

The Indian embassy in Washington tweeted that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi had been destroyed by Khalistani at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Plaza near the embassy. The embassy strongly condemned the incident. India is demanding an immediate investigation into the incident and action against the perpetrators.

Earlier this month, a “Khalistan flag” was seen at an exhibition outside the Indian embassy in London. During the demonstration, protesters chanted anti-India and anti-peasant slogans. Not only that, but the statue of Mahatma Gandhi was also destroyed during a demonstration in Washington in June following the death of black citizen George Floyd.

Farmers in the country have been protesting for 18 days against the new agricultural law. Farmers are demanding the repeal of the three laws. Farmers have held five rounds of talks with the government, but the issue has not been resolved. Farmers are still stranded on the Delhi border. Thousands of farmers are reportedly coming from Punjab to Delhi to intensify the movement. The BJP, on the other hand, has said it will hold a press conference to explain the law.
