Basavalinga Swami, a 45-year-old Lingayat sect seer, was found hanging from a room’s window grille at Kanchugal Bande Mutt in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district on Monday, police said.
According to police, his last few phone calls are being traced because he left a two-page suicide note about being harassed by “some people who wanted to remove him from his position.”For 25 years, Basavalinga Swami was the mutt’s chief seer. At the Kudur police station, a case of unnatural death has been filed.
He was discovered hanging around 6 a.m. by some disciples. According to police sources, some people are suspected of blackmailing the seer over some issues. The complainant, Ramesh, a Bande Mutt school teacher, told police that he met the seer at 5 p.m. on Sunday before leaving for home. Around 6.10 a.m., he received a call from a mutt employee informing him that the seer was not opening his room or taking calls. According to the report, Ramesh went to the back of the room and discovered the seer hanging.
