Hyderabad has been chosen as the recipient of the coveted “World Green City Award 2022,” besting 18 other cities, including the list’s top cities, Paris, Bogota, Mexico City, Montreal, and Fortaleza.
Hyderabad is the only Indian city that was chosen, and Telangana and India should be proud of Hyderabad for winning not only the category prize but also the overall “World Green City 2022” award, the best across all 6 categories, at a ceremony held in Jeju, South Korea.
Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, MA&UD, and the entire Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority team were thanked by Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao for their accomplishment.The AIPH award, established to recognise best practises in landscaping, plant cultivation, and flower production, aims to honour these methods.
Hyderabad also took first place in the AIPH’s category award for “Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth.” The prize recognised the State’s “Telangana Ku Haritha Haram” programme, a massive tree-planting initiative that the State began in 2015–16. According to the grant, “the initiative envisions expanding the State’s tree cover from 24% to 33% of the overall geographical area of the State.”
Additionally, the Telangana Chief Minister urged the state’s representatives in government and the general public to continue their efforts to make Telangana a green state. He declared that the world should be proud of the state government’s efforts and dedication to the environment.K.T. The Municipal Administration Minister, Rama Rao, also congratulated the HMDA staff members for their work in transforming the city into a “living green city.”
The World Green Cities Award was given to Hyderabad for “initiatives focusing on a greater use of plants and nature to create better city settings – helping to meet local objectives for increased economic, social, and environmental resilience,” according to one of the standards.
