More C-Section Deliveries In Private Hospitals In Odisha

The government of Odisha today disclosed that the rates of cesarean deliveries in government and private hospitals in the state differ significantly. In 2023–2024, a startling 81.06% of births in private institutions were surgical, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling told the Assembly. Out of 140,126 births, 113,598 were cesarean surgically done.

In comparison, 1,95,578 out of 5,91,185 births in 2023–24 were cesarean, representing a 33.08% caesarean delivery rate according to government hospitals. The pattern is in line with data from the prior year, which indicated that the rate of cesarean deliveries in government hospitals was 30.73% and in private hospitals it was 77.46%. According to the data, the rate of cesarean deliveries in private hospitals in Odisha is substantially greater than that of government hospitals.
