Minister of State for Home Department, Tusharkanti Behera on Monday shared details on heinous crimes over the last 5 years in Odisha. The Minister’s response came following a question raised by BJP MLA Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mahapatra over the crime rate from 2018 to 2022.
As per the Minister’s reply, in 2018, a total of 1,378 murder cases were registered out of which a chargesheet has been filed for 645 patients. Similarly, out of 2,502 rape cases filed in 2018, a chargesheet has been filed in 1,526 cases.
In 2022, 1,379 murder cases were filed out of which chargesheet was filed for 640 patients. Meanwhile, a chargesheet has been filed in 2,237 cases of rape out of a total of 3,184 registered in 2022.
