Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the 39th Sub-Junior Boys’ National Handball Championship in Keonjhar today, underscoring the state government’s commitment to promoting sports across all villages.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted a series of measures aimed at fostering sports activities from the grassroots level. He emphasized the organization of CM Trophy sports tournaments designed to attract budding talents and announced plans to enhance sports infrastructure throughout the state.
A significant initiative includes the construction of stadiums in all 314 blocks of Odisha to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure. The state government has allocated over ₹4,000 crore for this purpose, with each stadium set to occupy approximately 8 to 10 acres of land. These facilities will feature amenities such as football and cricket fields, athletic tracks with areas for throws and jumps, and indoor halls.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these developments would significantly boost the sports culture in Odisha and nurture young talent from rural areas. He noted that the stadiums would play a crucial role in hosting various sports competitions, facilitating talent scouting, and enabling selection processes from the grassroots level.
This initiative reflects the Odisha government’s dedication to fostering a robust sports ecosystem and promoting health and wellness across the state.
