Odisha Govt Establishes NIA Police Station In Bhubaneswar

The government of Odisha has taken a major administrative step by formally establishing a National Investigation Agency (NIA) police station in Bhubaneswar to supervise activities throughout the state. The Home Department made the announcement using the authority granted by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. In the Regional Telecom Training Centre (BSNL), Vani Vihar, VSS Nagar, Bhubaneswar, the office of the Superintendent of Police in charge of the NIA Police Station has been classified as a full-fledged police station, per an official announcement. This newly created station would have jurisdiction over the whole state of Odisha.

The National Investigation Agency Act of 2008 lists terror-related crimes and other scheduled offenses of national concern, and this action attempts to improve the investigation of these offenses.

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 2(1)(u) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (46 of 2023), the State Government hereby declares the office specified in Column (1) of the Schedule below as a Police Station for the area specified in Column (2) thereof, in respect of the investigation of scheduled offences under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), for exercising the powers under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (46 of 2023). This shall come into force on the date of publication of this notification in the Odisha Gazette,” the notification stated.

It is anticipated that the move will improve collaboration with central authorities and expedite investigation processes for national security-related matters in Odisha.
