Odisha Minister Proposes Modern Hygienic Fish Market In Paradip

Odisha Industries and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain has suggested building a contemporary, sanitary fish market in Paradip to enhance amenities for fishermen, dealers, and customers. Swain, the state Assembly representative for Paradip, has written to Gokulananda Mallik, Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, requesting his involvement and an early funding allocation for the project.

Due to the abundance of fish in Paradip, a significant portion of the local population makes their living from fishing and fish trading. Additionally, fish plays a significant role in the region’s everyday diet.
However, it is said that Paradip’s current fish markets are in bad shape, with inadequate facilities and inadequate cleanliness. According to the letter, the lack of appropriate storage facilities frequently causes fish quality to decline, which presents challenges for both traders and customers.

To address these issues, Swain has proposed the establishment of a modern fish market equipped with improved infrastructure and better hygiene standards. The proposed market will include proper sanitation arrangements, ice-based preservation systems, improved infrastructure and cold storage facilities. The modern facility is expected to reduce the risk of environmental pollution and ensure the availability of fresh fish while maintaining high safety standards.

The project is expected to bring significant transformation to the fish trade in the Paradip region. It will not only benefit fishermen and traders but also ensure that consumers get access to high-quality and hygienic fish, Swain said.
