Using the NDPS Act of 1985, the Odisha Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday seized a drug trafficker’s illicit properties valued at over Rs 73 lakh. With approval from the appropriate authority under the NDPS Act, 1985, the STF reportedly forfeited cash and bank deposits totaling Rs 73.75 lakh that drug trafficker Shiba Prasad Das, also known as Shibu, had accumulated under Jatni police limits in Khurda district. Shibu is a native Mundia Sahi.
It is important to note that on January 25, 2022, the STF found and confiscated approximately 3 kg of brown sugar from the drug trafficker’s rented home in the Nayagarh district of Odisha. Three firearms, seven magazines, forty-three rounds of ammunition, and Rs 65.32 lakh in cash were also taken from Das by the STF. An investigation into the incident was started, and Das was the subject of a case filed under the NDPS Act. Additionally, during the investigation, STF detectives had taken money from two of Das’s bank accounts totaling about Rs 6.68 lakh and Rs 1.64 lakh.
Based on the seizures, the STF approached the Competent Authority and Administrator of the NDPS Act, Kolkata, and received approval for the forfeiture of the seized properties of the accused.
