Seven exceptional individuals from Odisha’s Ganjam district are set to grace the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, as special guests of the Central government. These trailblazers have made the most of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana, a flagship program aimed at providing free electricity to one crore households across India.
Balakrushna, a 64-year-old retired ayurvedic officer, and Jeetendriya Mopaptra, a 56-year-old resident of Kautik Nagar, are among the esteemed guests. Both have successfully installed rooftop solar panels under the scheme, reaping the benefits of clean energy and significant reductions in their electricity bills.
Balakrushna, who installed a 3-KW solar system in his house, has not paid a single electric charge since June last year. Previously, his monthly electricity bill averaged around Rs 1,000. “I’m thrilled to attend the Republic Day celebration and share my experience with others,” he exclaimed.
Mopaptra, who opted for a 2-KW solar system, echoed similar sentiments. “We’ve switched to solar energy to protect the environment and secure a sustainable future,” he emphasized.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana offers a subsidy of up to 60% of the solar unit cost, making it an attractive proposition for households seeking to harness renewable energy. Eligible beneficiaries can receive up to 300 units of free electricity every month.
As the nation celebrates its 74th Republic Day, these Odisha-based solar pioneers serve as shining examples of innovation and environmental stewardship. Their presence at the parade is a testament to the impact of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana in empowering individuals and promoting sustainable development.
The success of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana in Odisha is a reflection of the state’s growing emphasis on renewable energy. With a target of generating 70% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, Odisha is poised to become a leader in India’s clean energy revolution.
The Central government’s initiative to invite beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana to the Republic Day celebration is a commendable effort to recognize and reward the contributions of individuals who are driving change in their communities. As the nation moves forward, it is essential to acknowledge and support the efforts of pioneers like Balakrushna and Mopaptra, who are paving the way for a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana is more than just a scheme – it’s a symbol of India’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable development. As the nation celebrates its 74th Republic Day, it is essential to recognize the importance of initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana in driving India’s clean energy revolution and creating a better future for generations to come.
