Operation Shivshakti: Two Terrorists Killed in Ongoing LoC Encounter in J\&K’s Poonch

Two terrorists were gunned down in an ongoing encounter with security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kalsian-Gulpur area of the Degwar sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials confirmed on Wednesday. The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Shivshakti,’ was launched following an attempted infiltration late Tuesday night.

According to army officials, troops detected suspicious movement of two to three individuals near the LoC fence and immediately responded with gunfire. The swift reaction led to a fierce gunbattle between the infiltrators and Indian troops.

“In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control,” said a statement from the Army’s 16 Corps. The ongoing operation is being carried out with coordinated intelligence support from both the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Three weapons were recovered from the encounter site, and officials said efforts are underway to determine if any more terrorists are involved or if additional threats remain in the area.

Earlier, the Army’s White Knight Corps posted an alert on social media platform X, stating: “Contact with terrorists. Suspected movement of two individuals was observed by our troops in the general area of Poonch Sector. Gunfire exchanged. Operation under progress.”

Security forces continue to maintain high alert along the LoC amid increased attempts at infiltration in recent weeks.
