Paradip Port has once again asserted its dominance as India’s leading cargo-handling port, recording a historic 150.41 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo throughput in FY 2024-25. This achievement places it in the exclusive 150 MMT Club, solidifying its position as the top-performing port among both major and non-major ports along India’s eastern coast.
Record-Breaking Growth in Cargo & Rail Traffic
Despite market challenges, including reduced export demand for iron ore and coking coal, Paradip Port continued its upward trajectory through strategic system improvements. Notably:
-
Containerized cargo volume surged by 111% YoY.
-
Flux volume increased by 32% YoY.
-
Coastal cargo handling accounted for 42.36% of total volume, growing 7.65% YoY to 63.71 MMT.
The port also set a new benchmark in rail traffic, handling 22,818 rakes—a 5.32% growth—and moving 81.01 MMT of rail-borne cargo, the highest among Indian major ports.
Pioneering India’s Maritime Growth
Paradip Port’s sustained excellence stems from operational efficiency and infrastructure enhancements. With continued expansion and modernization, it is poised to strengthen its leadership in Indian maritime trade.
