Dhenkanal: A workshop titled ‘Parliamentary Reporting’ was organized on Thursday at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal, in collaboration with PRS Legislative Research. The programme was conducted for the students of the Post Graduate Diploma in English and Odia Journalism. The workshop was held under the guidance of Professor Anand Pradhan, Regional Director of IIMC,Dhenkanal. Chokshu Ray, Head of Civic and Legislative Research at PRS, and Program Associate Yashika Kedia joined as subject experts.

They explained to the students various aspects of legal processes, parliamentary procedures, and the internal functioning of the Parliament. They also shared their experiences regarding different dimensions of legislative research.

Several key topics were discussed during the workshop. These included the law-making process and stages of passing a bill, the structure and functioning of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and parliamentary procedures such as questions, debates, committees, resolutions, and reports. Students gained insights into the importance of legal research, its role in strengthening democratic processes, and best practices for journalists covering Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies.

Students actively participated, asking questions and learning about the practical aspects of parliamentary reporting through various examples and real-life situations. The programme concluded with an interactive question–answer session.
