Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his election win and stated that he looked forward to continuing working with him to further strengthen India-Canada relations.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted- “Congratulations Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau on your victory in the elections! I look forward to continue working with you to further strengthen India-Canada relations, as well as our cooperation on global and multilateral issues.”
According to the official reports, Justin Trudeau won in parliamentary elections but failed to get the majority. However, he leads a strong minority government that won’t be toppled by the opposition anytime soon.
US President Joe Biden also spoke with Justin Trudeau to congratulate him as informed by the White House. A statement from Trudeau’s office stated the two North American leaders reiterated the importance of the mutually beneficial Canada-US partnership for the security and prosperity of both countries and committed to getting together in person soon to discuss bilateral cooperation. It further added that Trudeau and Biden also discussed China’s arbitrary detention of Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.
