Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been bestowed Cambridge Energy Research Associates Week (CERAWeek) Global Energy & Environment Leadership Award for commitment to energy sustainability, environment.
Cambridge Energy Research Associates Week (CERAWeek) Global Energy & Environment Leadership Award is considered the world’s premier annual energy platform and the event was held through video conferencing.
While accepting the award PM Modi talked about climate change stating that India is on the path to achieving the climate goals well before the target date as it switched over to energy-efficient mediums and uses waste to generate energy. He also said that right now the major challenge the world is facing is climate change and calamity.
PMModi further said that the target of mixing 20 percent ethanol has been advanced to 2025 and 5000 compressed bio-gas plants will also be set up which will turn municipal and agriculture waste into energy. The witching over energy-efficient LED bulbs has helped to save 38 million tonnes of carbon emission. Even the modern techniques of irrigation and reduction of the use of pesticides have helped to improve soil fertility.
He added that India is working to increase the share of natural gas, which is environment friendly and less polluting, in the energy basket from the current 6 percent to 15 percent by 2030, and also the liquefied natural gas (LNG) is being promoted as a fuel.
He further added that India has maintained that it is not a polluter and cause of climate change and has voluntarily committed to reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity of its GDP by 33-35 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. Even over the last seven years, India’s forest cover has grown significantly as well as the population of lions, tigers, leopards, and waterfowls.
While congratulating PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted- “Congratulations to PM @narendramodi Ji on being conferred the CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award. Under Modi Ji’s leadership, India has witnessed an unprecedented behavioral change in the masses towards conserving the environment and adopting clean energy.
