A charity scandal has erupted involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with over $6 million reportedly missing from their Archewell Foundation. The significant sum is absent from the couple’s recent filings with the Internal Revenue Service. In 2021, Archewell raised over $13 million, but its reported income dropped to just over $2 million in 2022.
During the 2022-2023 fiscal year, two organizations claimed to have donated to Archewell: Fidelity Charitable reported a $6 million contribution, while TisBest Philanthropy noted a $10,050 grant. However, Archewell stated it only received two anonymous grants of $1 million each, raising questions about the discrepancies in reported amounts. The differences may stem from the timing of the grants, but clarity is expected in Archewell’s financial report, which is due on November 15, 2024. Despite this, the situation has raised concerns among sources.
An insider shared with Radar Online, “Ever since they stepped away from their responsibilities in Britain, it seems like everything Harry and Meghan do becomes problematic. It might just be a case of incompetence rather than any intention to deceive, but this certainly doesn’t help them gain admirers or attract investors for their for-profit ventures.”
In May, Archewell was prohibited from any further fundraising or distribution of funds by California’s Department of Justice. Initially, the foundation claimed that a notice about a late payment was due to their check for the renewal fee getting lost in the mail. Later, they suggested it was the California Attorney General’s office that failed to process the payment. This created further confusion around the situation, but ultimately, Archewell regained its “active” charity status and was granted permission to raise and spend funds again.
