The final monarch of the former Jeypore kingdom, ama Kumari Devi, passed away on Monday morning after a protracted illness. 90 years old. Sagarika Devi, the youngest daughter-in-law of Rama Kumari, and Chandrachuda, her grandson, were there when she passed away. Numerous well-known people visited the royal palace to pay their respects to the queen shortly after the news of her passing circulated.Her family members have been informed that her remains will be cremated at the Chandanbada-based royal cremation place with royal honours.
The previous ruler of the Jeypore kingdom, Ramakrushna Deo, was married to Rama Kumari Devi. The king was Maharaj Bikram Dev Verma’s adopted son. Notably, the dynasty had been controlled for two days by Maharaj Ramakrushna Deo. According to sources, Jeypore is one of the biggest towns and a significant historical location in the Koraput district. In 1648–1649CE, the town became the capital of Maharaja Veer Vikrama Dev’s empire.Up until Balram Dev III’s uprising, it was the greatest kingdom in Kalinga. After being overthrown by the East India Company, the monarchy was transformed into a baronial domain known as Zamindari in 1780 until it was dissolved in 1947. Historically, the former kingdom encompassed what are now North and South Andhra and Odisha. With the western side extending up to Chhattishgarh in central India, Jeypore is encircled by the Eastern Ghats and the Araku hills on three sides.
