Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh closed 2025 on a high following the strong success of Dhurandhar, earning widespread praise for his performance and building anticipation for its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge. While fans await his return as Hamza, also known as Jaskirat, in the second installment, the actor’s sudden exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 has now sparked fresh controversy.
Ranveer’s departure from the film, reportedly over creative differences, came as a surprise to the industry. According to a report by Variety India, Excel Entertainment—headed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani—is allegedly seeking compensation of ₹40 crore from the actor, citing substantial losses incurred during the pre-production phase.
Sources claim that Ranveer has contested the demand, maintaining that he is not legally bound to pay the amount as he withdrew from the project due to dissatisfaction with the final script. It is said that the actor had repeatedly asked for revisions and was unhappy with the direction the screenplay eventually took. In contrast, the production house reportedly maintains that pre-production work began only after receiving Singh’s approval.
The report further suggests that several heads of departments associated with the film have been asked to seek alternate work following the project’s delay. Last week, Ranveer and representatives of Excel Entertainment allegedly held a two-hour meeting to resolve the issue, but no consensus was reached.
With the dispute escalating, the Producers Guild of India (PGI) has reportedly stepped in to mediate between the two parties. Meanwhile, industry buzz indicates that Don 3 may now be offered to Shah Rukh Khan, who famously portrayed the titular character in Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011). However, no official confirmation has been made so far.
