Q1) How did the idea of Nua Goa Retreat Come to your mind
Having spent over three decades in the corporate IT sector, working for global MNCs, I was suddenly immobile for six months due to a freak accident during one of my annual visits to my hometown in Odisha. During my recovery, I spent a significant amount of time at our farmhouse near Cuttack, and this downtime allowed me to question why the state of Odisha, despite its richness, is primarily known only for places like Puri and Konark in terms of tourism.
Inspired by this, I decided to start a nature retreat that has the potential to become an alternative tourism destination, close to Kapilash Wildlife Sanctuary and other picturesque areas. With a passion for hospitality, I saw the opportunity to create a safe and relaxing environment where guests can escape the daily grind and enjoy the natural beauty of the location. The name NuaGoa was created by combining the name of the village in which the resort is located (Nuapada) with Goa, after which the retreat is themed. For me, this resort is not only a business opportunity but a way for me to pour my heart and soul into creating a memorable experience for guests.
Q2) Kindly enlighten us about some beautiful features that Nua Goa Retreat provides us.
NuaGoa primarily caters to families and corporate guests and operates on an advance booking only policy to ensure a fun and safe environment. This also allows for customization of the guest experience based on their preferences. Our unique offerings, such as boating, fishing, rain dancing, borewell bath, karaoke, a cricket ground, bonfire, barbeque, and various local games, make the experience unforgettable.
Additionally, we facilitate corporate events and team outings and assist with organizing group activities and team-building exercises. Our guests from cities often appreciate the rural charm of NuaGoa, which spans over 8.5 acres of property, featuring more than 300 coconut and mango trees, and is populated by chickens, geese, and ducks. The nature safari and visit to the nearby dam for a breathtaking sunset are also considered highlights.
Q3) Odisha is a place where people from all parts of the country come to visit. What is your take on Nua Goa Retreat on enriching the economy of Odisha .
As a well-known tourist destination, NuaGoa offers employment opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industries, benefiting the local community. The resort appeals to both domestic and international tourists, who contribute to the economy through spending on food, lodging, and local tours. Additionally, the resort’s day-to-day operations stimulate economic activity by hiring local suppliers and contractors for materials and services.By promoting Odisha as a tourist destination, NuaGoa plays a crucial role in increasing awareness of the area’s rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty, which will ultimately boost both tourism and economic development in the long run.
Q4) There is a lot of hardwork that goes on behind the curation of the idea of a beautiful place like this and bringing it to practicality. How much time did it take to implement the idea and what is your experience behind it.
Establishing a greenfield retreat project from an existing farmhouse presented its own set of challenges and provided valuable learning experiences. Since its establishment in 2019, NuaGoa has been continuously developing its facilities based on guest feedback and preferences. Although our efforts have been well-received by guests from the beginning, our focus on improvement has helped us maintain the highest ratings on various public forums.Being located away from the city posed its own obstacles, including the need to establish a supply chain using local vendors and hire professionals to ensure seamless day-to-day operations. The main takeaway from our journey so far has been the importance of treating guests with the true spirit of “Atithi Debo Bhaba” (Guest is God), as this will in turn lead to a thriving business.
