M Shenbagam, CEO, TPCODCL
Mr M Shenbagam, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODCL), is a stalwart of the power sector, boasting more than three decades of experience in thermal and hydro generation, distribution and international business development.
Prior to his tenure at TPCODL, Mr. Shenbagam held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, and prior to that, he was at the helm of Tata Power’s power business in Vietnam. There, he spearheaded the implementation of the 2 x 660 MW Long Phu 2, Super Critical Thermal Power Project, while relentlessly pursuing growth opportunities in renewables.
Mr. Shenbagam’s expertise in the industry was further exemplified during his time as the head of retail distribution at The Tata Power Company in Mumbai, from 2008 to 2015. During this tenure, he oversaw the commercial, marketing, operations and customer service functions, and was instrumental in driving the company’s growth from a mere 23,000 customers to over 6,00,000 customers. His deft hand in setting up the entire commercial and operational processes to meet the growing customer base and capacity and capability building was pivotal in the company’s exponential growth journey. Such success did not go unnoticed, as the distribution business went on to win four national awards for best distribution company from 2008 to 2013.But Mr Shenbagam’s impressive resume does not end there. Prior to his Mumbai stint, he helmed Tata Power’s hydro business, where he displayed his fervour for hydropower plants by being responsible for the modernization and renovation of 80-year-old hydropower plants installed as far back as 1915.
It is worth noting that Mr. Shenbagam’s journey to this pinnacle of success began with his education at the esteemed National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, followed by his participation in the Management Program at the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. Such a path to excellence serves as an inspiration to us all.
Mr Shenbagam is a great votary of the importance of energy conservation for a better and sustainable future.
“Natural resources must no longer be assumed as a limitless wellspring. While we are progressively transitioning towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, it is imperative that we also dedicate ourselves to conserving energy, to secure a brighter future for generations yet to come. In this noble endeavor, students shall emerge as the vanguards of this movement. It is for this very reason that we have established the Club Enerji program, to instill within them this crucial ethos”, he said recently.
Club Enerji, wherein the company conducted an awareness module on Tata Power Club energy, and sessions on the conservation of energy, the curbing of wastage, the significance of cleanliness, and the protection of the environment, among other topics, at various distinguished institutions, including Hingula High School, Brahmanbil High School, Patitapaban Higher School, Basudevpur High School, and Panchayati Raj School Kuteswar, all under the purview of the illustrious Angul Division. Such interactive sessions were attended by approximately 360 inquisitive students, who undoubtedly proved to be a beacon of hope for our future.
Shenbagam’s primary responsibility at TPCODL is to drive the company’s growth and profitability. He is focused on offering top-notch services to customers across Odisha, developing new business opportunities, and leveraging the latest technologies to ensure efficiency and sustainability. He is working closely with the Government of Odisha to improve the power infrastructure in the state.
