
Truptee Dairy CEO Varsha Biswal is also a biotechnologist, entrepreneur, and social activist who is working on a doctorate in biotechnology at Utkal University. Having earned her btech and mtech in biotechnology from kiit University, varsha was interviewed by the Office of University Advancement and Teaching (ouat) and subsequently accepted into the Junior Research Fellows programme .Presently An Academic council member of Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College, Cuttack, Odisha . Her parents thought of Truptee, and her father had always intended to establish a dairy industry. As varsha began studying biotechnology, she became enamoured with the concept, and she launched her company on November (2021). She helps nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and many pet organizations.
Q1 : It must be incredibly challenging for a woman entrepreneur to join a field and run her own organization. What were your challenges and how did you overcome them?
Being a woman entrepreneur comes with numerous difficulties, such as a male-dominant culture where we must be tough and accomplish what we want to. Women are a strong source that we can use to attain our objectives; we don’t need a male-dominated culture to guide us, and that’s the difficult part. I was raised in a household that saw the rise of female empowerment and the expression of women’s opinions in several fields. I feel fortunate to have been born into a family that has been very supportive of me and has encouraged more female family members from the beginning.
Q2: Describe your motivation for choosing a profession in biotechnology.
Hence, biotechnology is a broad subject as a whole. Here, we investigate a variety of topics including the pharmaceutical, food, and environmental industries. I was motivated by the food biotechnology to enter the dairy business and launch my own startup, truptee dairy industry.
The name of my business is derived from my mother’s name since trupti is the spelling of her name. Biotechnology is quite broad; we explore a variety of research areas where we develop new drugs, experiment with hybrid plants, study vaccines and dna, and learn a great deal about not only humans but also other microorganisms.
My teacher at the KIIT school where I was studying encouraged me to specialise in biotechnology, which fascinated me and gave me the motivation I needed to pursue this field. Additionally, there are a number of difficulties that we face, such as the misconception that being born into a wealthy family ensures that you will have everything you need, when in reality, this is not the case. To prove that we are competent of conducting and managing a company, we need brains and a lot of work.
Q3: What efforts are you making to succeed and establish your firm as a well-known brand in the dairy market given the large number of dairy brands that are providing the same product?

First and foremost, we put an emphasis on quality. As a result, we avoid from praising or criticizing other businesses because we believe that those to whom we sell our products should evaluate us on the basis of our product’s quality rather than any other factor, since consumers tend to overvalue certain products and to hype others. The most interesting part of my firm is that it is the first dairy sector in Odisha to be founded by a biotechnologist and veterinarians. My dad, Dr. Shiba Prasad Biswal, who is a veterinarian by profession, serves as the company’s director. We use biotechnology to enter the production industry, labs to monitor quality, and veterinarians to assist us produce milk of top quality. Also, we provide free health treatment for cows.
Q4: How do you make your dairy goods at your factory?
The milk is put through a series of tests, including a mouth tasting and a microbiological analysis, before moving on to the next stage of production. Before packing, the milk is also put through a series of tests to ensure that the appropriate levels of protein and carbohydrates are present; this is because different types of milk require different levels of fat and carbohydrates.
Q5: What are your marketing strategies for your company?
We use a range of marketing strategies. We promote our company via social media, sponsored programmes, and word-of-mouth. In order to enable contact with our target audience and get insightful input, we want to run campaigns to increase awareness of our product.
Q6: How did you get shops to stock your dairy product when they already carried others in the same category?
We have a marketing team that visits stores to convince the owners and hand out samples and pamphlets to ensure high quality. First, we establish ties with the distributors, and then we go on to the supply chain.
Q7: As a strong entrepreneur, what advice would you provide to today’s young grownups?
There will be challenges when you first get started, but if you have faith in yourself and know that you can overcome them, you’ll be able to go forward successfully. Failing is the only way to get stronger over time, therefore you must risk it all. The ability to inspire oneself is crucial. Working hard isn’t something I believe in because I think it’s essential to love what you’re doing. Enjoy the process .
