Odisha Government has decided to give a cash award of 2.5 Lakh to a person for marrying a Person with Disability (PwD) to promote social harmony.
The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department has developed a new scheme which will give an incentive of 2.5 Lakh for a wedding between a normal person with a disabled person.
The SC/ST department has already announced the cash incentive of 2.5 lakh for marriage between SC/ST and other castes. Even earlier the government was paying 50000 for the marriage between PwDs which will help the couple to lead a normal and dignified life. The incentive scheme will also help to encourage people to marry a PwD.
As per the reports the financial incentive will be given to the couple who gets married and after proper scrutiny, the money will be handed over. To avail of the reward, the bridegroom and bride must have completed 21 and 18 years of age respectively at the time of marriage and either of the spouses must have not availed of the incentive award under the scheme earlier. And the marriage must have been dowry free.
To avail of the incentive, the newly Wed couple needs to apply for it along with their marriage registration certificate. The incentive amount will endure fixed in the joint account of the couple and they can withdraw under joint signature after three years.
