Sanjay Mukherjee is named by the Election Commission as the new DGP of West Bengal

Less than twenty-four hours after appointing Vivek Sahay to the position, the Election Commission on Tuesday dismissed him and named Sanjay Mukherjee as the new West Bengal DGP.West Bengal’s director general of police, Vivek Sahay, was replaced by Sanjay Mukherjee on Tuesday by the Election Commission of India, according to state officials.Mukherjee is an IPS agent from the 1989 batch.

In addition to serving as the director of the CBI, the governor of Mizoram, and the adviser to Union Home Minister Indrajit Gupta following his retirement, his father, Arun Prasad Mukherjee, was a distinguished IPS officer who passed away in 2020.

Vivek Sahay, an IPS officer from 1988 batch who was working as director general (home guards), was named the new DGP on Monday afternoon. Rajeev Kumar, an appointment made by the state government in December of last year, had been removed from his position by the Election Commission. The state chief secretary was requested to submit a list of three qualified officers by the poll panel on Monday. The names of Rajesh Kumar, Sahay, and Mukherjee were given by the state.
