Q: Anant Paddy Products has grown significantly since its inception. Could you share the inspiration behind starting this venture?
I took my first major step in business on August 5th, 1996. This moment was symbolic for me because it marked my journey from small beginnings toward bigger ventures. Initially, I started as a government store agent and then ventured into setting up a mini crusher, followed by road and bridge construction projects. Each step taught me resilience, the importance of calculated risks, and the value of seizing opportunities.
The inspiration for Anant Paddy Products came from my desire to build on my family’s agricultural legacy. My father was deeply connected with the farming community in our region, and I always admired his dedication to agriculture. When the opportunity arose to create something that would both honour our heritage and contribute to modern agricultural practices, I knew I had to take it. The goal was to uplift local farmers while ensuring that our products were of the highest quality.
Q: How did you manage to combine traditional practices with modern innovations at Anant Paddy Products?
It’s a balancing act. While tradition forms the backbone of our company, we understand the importance of staying updated with modern practices to maintain quality and efficiency. We’ve adopted advanced milling technology and quality control systems, but we’re also committed to sustainable farming practices. By working closely with local farmers, we ensure that the time-honoured methods of cultivation are preserved, while integrating technology that helps us process the rice in a way that meets the highest standards.
Q: Sustainability seems to be a core value at Anant Paddy Products. Can you talk about how the company is working towards sustainable agriculture?
Sustainability is key to everything we do. We work closely with farmers to promote organic farming methods, minimize water waste, and reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. Our company believes in creating a balance between profit and the planet. We’ve implemented programs that incentivize farmers to adopt eco-friendly practices, and we’re continuously looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint throughout the supply chain.
Q: What challenges did you face in the early years of the business, and how did you overcome them?
The initial years were tough. Convincing farmers to move away from certain methods and adopt newer practices was difficult. There were also challenges in setting up a state-of-the-art processing facility in a rural area. But through persistence and building trust with the community, we managed to get the support we needed. We also invested heavily in educating farmers about the long-term benefits of sustainable practices, which was a game-changer.

It’s everything. Our company is built on the foundation of community, and the local farmers are our backbone. We’ve built long-lasting relationships with the farmers we work with, and we ensure they receive fair prices for their crops. Additionally, we’ve initiated various programs to support their families, including education and healthcare initiatives. The success of our business goes hand in hand with the prosperity of our farmers.
Q: As the company continues to grow, what is your vision for the future of Anant Paddy Products?
I see Anant Paddy Products becoming a leader in sustainable agriculture, not just in Odisha but across India. We plan to expand our operations while maintaining our commitment to quality and sustainability. Additionally, we want to continue empowering farmers by providing them with more opportunities and resources. For me, the future of agriculture lies in innovation, sustainability, and community collaboration, and we’re determined to lead by example.
Q: Lastly, what advice would you give to young entrepreneurs looking to make a difference in traditional industries like agriculture?
My advice would be to stay true to your roots but remain open to innovation. In traditional industries like agriculture, it’s important to honour the past while embracing the future. Be patient, build strong relationships with your community, and always strive for quality and sustainability. Success doesn’t come overnight, but with perseverance and dedication, you can make a meaningful impact.
